Needle, Factory, Cathedral Valley, and Moonscape Overlook will offer unparalleled opportunities to capture the grandeur of nature. The town of Moab and Arches National Park will be the highlights, challenging even the most trained eye with their palette of colors and textures. From sunset to sunrise, every moment will be an opportunity to create images that tell stories and evoke emotions.

This workshop goes beyond technique; it is a full immersion in the art of photography. Itinerary

Day 1: Salt Lake City

We will begin our journey with a warm welcome in Salt Lake City, the gateway to Utah’s astonishing natural beauty. With carefully selected accommodations, we will provide participants with the perfect space to settle in and prepare for the exciting adventure that awaits them.

During our stay in Salt Lake City, we will dive into introductory sessions that will prepare participants to get the most out of their photographic equipment and develop their creative eye. Additionally, we will take this time to establish a connection among the group members, fostering an atmosphere of camaraderie and collaboration that will enrich our collective experience.

Day 2: Hanksville

At 10 in the morning, we will embark on our journey to Hanksville, a picturesque town that will welcome us with its Old West charm. After a four-hour drive, we will arrive at this destination where we will delight in a local meal and prepare for an afternoon and evening full of natural wonders.

In Hanksville, we will immerse ourselves in the relaxed and welcoming atmosphere of the place as we get ready for the unparalleled experience of witnessing the sunset in Goblin’s Valley. With cameras ready, we will marvel at the dance of colors in the sky and prepare to capture the majesty of the Milky Way in this land of unique rock formations.

Day 3: Hanksville

We will start the day with a magical experience by witnessing the spectacular sunrise at Goblin’s Valley, where the golden light illuminates the unique rock formations, creating a surreal landscape that will captivate our senses and leave a lasting impression on our memories. After this enriching experience, we will delight in a breakfast that will energize us and prepare us for the exciting adventures that are to come.

After a well-deserved rest and a moment to recharge our energies, we will delve into a photo editing class, where we will perfect our technical and creative skills to enhance the beauty of our captured images even further. Then, as sunset approaches, we will head to Factory Butte, where we will witness another natural wonder: an impressive sunset that will paint the sky with a palette of vibrant colors. In addition, we will have the unique opportunity to conduct a night session, taking advantage of the darkness to capture the majesty of the Milky Way over the imposing landscape of Factory.

Day 4: Hanksville

Another day full of amazing experiences awaits us, starting with an unforgettable sunrise at Moonscape Overlook, where we will witness the majesty of nature in its highest expression. After this visual spectacle, we will delight in a hearty breakfast that will give us the necessary energy for what follows: an inspiring morning editing session, where we will perfect our captured images and explore new techniques to highlight their beauty.

In the afternoon, as the sun begins to set, we will venture into the magnificent Needle, a place full of uniqueness and charm that will offer us the opportunity to capture unique and evocative images. There, we will await with anticipation the appearance of the Milky Way in the night sky, ready to immortalize this celestial phenomenon in our photographs, thus closing a day full of discoveries and unforgettable visual emotions.

Day 5: Moab

We will rise with the sun to start our day in Moab, eager to explore its natural wonders after a delicious breakfast. Our first destination will be the river, where we will delve into capturing aerial images, taking advantage of the morning light to obtain spectacular shots that capture the essence of this beautiful setting.

After a morning of exciting photography, we will take a well-deserved break to recharge our energies and enjoy a revitalizing lunch. Then, we will head to the stunning Arches National Park, where we will marvel at the majesty of its rock formations as the sun sets on the horizon, creating a spectacular view that will be the perfect backdrop to close our day. There, under the starry desert sky, we will prepare for an unforgettable night, capturing the magic of this unique landscape in our cameras and creating memories that will last forever.

Day 6: Moab

We will start the day with an exciting sunrise at Arches National Park, where we will delight in the spectacularity of the rock formations bathed by the first light of the day, creating a postcard-worthy landscape. After this enriching experience, we will return to enjoy a comforting breakfast that will give us the necessary energy for the activities to come.

After recharging, we will dive into a photo editing class where we will perfect our captured images, exploring creative techniques to enhance their beauty. Then, we will take a well-deserved break to recharge our batteries before the exciting sunset photo session. Once the sun begins to decline on the horizon, we will head back to Arches to change locations and capture the magical transition of colors in the sky, as well as the dazzling appearance of the Milky Way in the darkness of the night. It will be a day full of unforgettable moments and photographic opportunities that will inspire us and leave us with lasting memories of the natural beauty of Arches.

Day 7: Salt Lake City

In the morning, we will say goodbye to Moab and embark on our return to Salt Lake City, where we will continue our exploration of Utah’s natural treasures. Our first stop will be at Antelope Island State Park and the bison reserve, where we will witness the majesty of these animals and marvel at the stunning landscapes offered by this island in the middle of the Great Salt Lake.

In the afternoon, we will immerse ourselves in the serenity and beauty of the Bonneville Salt Flats, a legendary place known for its vast expanse of salt and its impressive lunar landscape. There, we will contemplate the sunset as the sky is painted in warm and vibrant tones, and we will patiently await the appearance of the Milky Way, which will adorn the firmament with its celestial glow. It will be the perfect finishing touch to our journey, leaving us with unforgettable memories of the astonishing natural beauty of Utah.

Day 8: Flight back home

It’s time to bid farewell to the group and conclude this wonderful adventure in Utah. We will head to the airport to catch our flights back home, carrying with us unforgettable memories. We look forward to gathering again on future photographic expeditions.

  • A Digital Single-Lens Reflex (DSLR) camera or a mirrorless camera
  • A sturdy tripod with a ball head
  • A wide-angle lens, such as a 14-24 mm

Clothing Recommendations

Our Photo Tour will take place during the winter season, and we recommend following the guidelines for appropriate attire to withstand low temperatures, especially during the night excursions. Temperatures range between 17 and -1º C (62.6 and 30.2º F).

  • FOOTWEAR: Mountain shoes or comfortable sports shoes – Foot and hand warmers (“warmer”) (optional, for those who feel very cold at night).
  • UPPER CLOTHING: Thermal T-shirt or inner thermal shirt. – Sweater or pullover made of polar material (brands like The North Face, Columbia, Patagonia, or similar) – Down jacket with support for temperatures up to -1ºC (30.2º F). – Neck gaiter. – Thermal gloves. – Woolen hats for the head.
  • LOWER CLOTHING: Thermal leggings. – Winter pants. – Wool socks.

For technical winter clothing, we recommend brands such as The North Face, Columbia, Patagonia, Helly Hansen, or similar.

Tips
  1. Wi-Fi will be available in all hotels. (For participants outside the USA), you can purchase a virtual e-SIM in advance from websites like https://esim.holafly.com/ or other similar services and activate it upon landing in the USA.

     

  2. You can exchange your currency for Dollars at the airport.

     

  3. The USA uses American type A electrical outlets, so if you are coming from Europe, you will need an adapter.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Flights to Salt Lake City
You should book your flight with a destination to Salt Lake City Airport, which will be the arrival and departure airport (SLC).
We recommend arriving in Salt Lake City before 12:00 noon on the start day of the tour so as not to miss the orientation session.
Some participants choose to arrive a day before the start of the tour, which could be an excellent idea to begin the tour rested, especially if you have had a long flight.

Documentation
To enter the USA, you must have a visa or an ESTA if you are from Europe.

Meals
Meals are not included in the tour price. Generally, we will have breakfast at our accommodation and enjoy meals and dinners at local restaurants.
During the day, we might opt for snacks and picnics on some days to streamline and maximize the time dedicated to photography.
We suggest being prepared to allocate approximately $60-$80 USD per day for your food expenses.

When will the workshop take place?

Where will the workshop be held?

The workshop will take place in the Badlands of Utah, a unique and stunning landscape offering a variety of extraordinary photographic opportunities. We will also spend two days in Monument Valley.

Who are the instructors of the workshop?

We have experienced nature photographers who will share their knowledge and techniques. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to learn about aerial photography with drones.

What skill level is required to participate?

The workshop is designed for photographers of all levels, from beginners to professionals. Sessions will be adapted to meet the needs of all participants, including an introduction to using drones for photography.

Can I use my drone during the workshop?

Absolutely! We encourage you to bring your drone to capture stunning views from the skies of the Badlands. We will be able to fly every day except in Monument Valley.

Are there any restrictions for flying drones in the area?

Only in Monument Valley.

Can I receive instructions on aerial photography with drones during the event?

Yes, there will be specific sessions during the workshop dedicated to aerial photography with drones. Our experts will guide you on best practices and techniques for capturing spectacular images from the air.

Is there an additional fee for using drones during the workshop?

Yes, in Goblin’s Valley, a $10 permit is required.

Can I get advice on purchasing a drone before the workshop?

Yes, our instructors will be happy to provide guidance on selecting and configuring drones for photography, both before and during the event.

Can I bring my laptop?

Yes, we recommend it for learning editing techniques.

Payment Policy Reservation Deposit
  • Deposit Policy: A reservation is confirmed upon a deposit of US$ 1,000. No spots will be reserved without the deposit.

    Final Payment: The final amount must be paid 30 days before the trip begins.

Cancellation and Refund Policy

We understand that attending our workshops requires prior commitment, and also that life events can occur that force you to cancel a trip. Depending on the cancellation date, the following conditions will apply:

  • More than 90 days before the start date of the workshop: Full refund of payments made.
  • Between 90 and 60 days before the start of the workshop: 50% of the booking will be refunded.
  • 60-30 days before the start of the workshop: 35% of the booking will be refunded.
  • Within 30 days prior to the start of the workshop: No refund will be made.

Accidents:

  • IceMonkey is not responsible for accidents to workshop participants and will not cover medical expenses if necessary. During the workshop, each participant is responsible for their own safety and physical integrity.
  • IceMonkey is not responsible for accidents or loss of photographic equipment during the workshop. Each participant is responsible for their own photographic equipment.

Travel insurance is mandatory.

Punctuality:

  • Each day of the expedition, all participants must be punctual at the established time. All participants must be at the starting point of the expedition for its beginning. In case of delays due to inconveniences, the participant must communicate with someone from the IceMonkey staff as soon as possible.
  • Respect:
    Participants may be at different levels of knowledge about the subject, which requires patience when explaining topics that are already familiar to them. The photographic area of each participant must be respected. Disrespect towards a participant or staff member will not be tolerated.

This is a discrimination-free space. We will not tolerate racism, sexism, discrimination based on sexual orientation, or gender identity.

Climate:

  • The tour and its itinerary depend on the weather and can change at any moment. We will always be attentive to the best weather conditions to determine where to go and optimize the taking of photographs.
